BOX OFFICE MILESTONE: ‘INSIDE OUT 2' CROSSES $1 BILLION GLOBALLY IN RECORD TIME

Talk about feeling joyful.

Pixar and Disney's Inside Out 2 has crossed the $1 billion club at the global box office in record time for an animated film after playing a major role in reviving the summer box office.

The movie achieved the feat on Sunday, it's 19th day in release. That's faster than any animated pic in history.

Inside Out 2 stayed atop the box office chart in its third weekend with a domestic tally of $57.4 million for a North American total of $469.3 million. Overseas, it grossed another $108 million for a foreign tally of $545.5 million and global cume of $1.015 billion.

The Pixar film is the first movie since Barbie almost a year ago to join the elite club. Among animated movies, it's the 11th to achieve the milestone. Disney dominates the list, laying claim to eight of those releases, whether Pixar or Walt Disney Animation titles.

Inside Out 2 is a needed win for Pixar, and has broken record after record since its debut earlier this month.

Directed by Kelsey Mann, the sequel introduces a whole new cast of emotions who are brought into "head"-quarters when the story's young heroine, Riley, becomes a teenager. Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust aren't so sure how to feel about the arrival of Anxiety, Envy, Ennui and Embarrassment.

Amy Poehler leads the voice cast that also includes Maya Hawke, Kensington Tallman, Liza Lapira, Tony Hale, Lewis Black, Phyllis Smith, Ayo Edebiri, Lilimar, Grace Lu, Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Diane Lane, Kyle MacLachlan, Paul Walter Hauser and Yvette Nicole Brown.

In 2015, Inside Out topped out at $858.8 million globally.

More to come.
