THE SANDMAN SEASON 2: GAME OF THRONES' JACK GLEESON, POSE'S INDYA MOORE, THE NEVERS' ANN SKELLY AND MORE JOIN CAST
Good thing The Dreaming is an endless expanse, because The Sandman Season 2 is starting to get a lot more crowded.
Game of Thrones‘ Jack Gleeson will join Netflix's fantasy series for its sophomore run, TVLine has learned. He'll play Puck, who is described as "a malevolent hobgoblin who serves as the royal jester to King Auberon of Faerie. Puck is fascinated by mortals and enjoys nothing more than making sport of them for his own amusement. He's also the inspiration for Shakespeare's Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream."
Thrones fans will recognize Gleeson as the reviled King Joffrey; his other TV credits include Sex Education and CBBC's The Famous Five.
Gleeson is just one of many new faces who'll pop up on the drama, which is based on the DC Comics series written by Neil Gaiman. Ann Skelly (The Nevers) will play Nuala opposite Douglas Booth (AMC+'s That Dirty Black Bag) as Clurucan; siblings who are royal emmissaries from the court of Faerie. Per the description: "Nuala is responsible, empathetic and principled. Clurucan is an impulsive rogue who lives for pleasure. They disagree about everything, except their devotion to one another."
Indya Moore (Pose) will play Wanda, a professional driver and security agent for an exclusive travel firm who will prove very important during an "Endless road trip to the waking world." Ruairi O'Connor (The Morning Show) will portray Orpheus, a poet, musician and oracle who is the only child of Dream and the muse Calliope. He's described as "an idealistic, romantic young man - and very much his father's son - until tragedy strikes and reveals to him the true nature of love."
Freddie Fox (The Great) will play the chaos-loving god Loki. He's a "charming, seductive shapeshifter" who's also "the smartest and most dangerous person in any room," the official description reads. "Loki is utterly irresistible and never to be trusted." Clive Russell (Ripper Street) will play Loki's brother/Thor's father, who gets along well with Dream "but finds himself driven to desperate extremes in his efforts to stave off Ragnarök." Laurence O'Fuarain (The Witcher: Blood Origin) will play storm god Thor, a socially unacceptable deity who carries his hammer, Mjollnir, and is ruled by his appetites for food and drink, battle and sex.
Steve Coogan (I'm Alan Partridge) will round out the cast additions, voicing Barnabas, the cynical canine companion of the Endless' prodigal brother. "He's man's best friend," according to the description, "and man's sharpest critic."
Previously announced Season 2 cast members include Esme Creed-Miles (Hanna) as Delirium, Adrian Lester (Primary Colors) as Destiny and Barry Sloane (Revenge) as The Prodigal. Netflix has not yet announced a Season 2 release date.
The Sandman follows Sturridge's Morpheus, lord of a mystical realm known as The Dreaming, who is the keeper of all of humanity's dreams (and nightmares). He and his siblings - Death, Desire, Despair, etc. - are collectively known as The Endless: embodiments of the concepts they represent. The returning cast includes Gwendoline Christie, Jenna Coleman, Steven Fry, Vanesu Samunyai, Ferdinand Kingsley, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Razane Jammal. (New to the franchise?
