GAELIC FOOTBALL ANNOUNCER NAME DROPS TAYLOR SWIFT AFTER MASSIVE UPSET

NFL announcers spent the entire 2023 season jamming Taylor Swift references into their commentary. Her reach extended beyond American football.

On Saturday, Galway defeated Dublin in the Gaelic Athletic Association Football All-Ireland Senior Championship quarterfinal. Galway upended the defending champions for their first championship win over Dublin in 90 years.

Ollie Turner commemorated the momentous triumph with a passionate call. The Gaelic football announcer referenced the global pop star, who was performing nearby.

"It’s the greatest day that Galway football has seen in over two decades! And every man, woman, and child stands to applaud [manager] Pádraic Joyce and his gallant Galway men," Turner declared, via Galway Bay FM (h/t The Irish Sun). "Sweet mother of Jesus, they have pulled out the unthinkable! Forget about Taylor Swift. Shake it off at the Aviva, and come over here to Croke Park, because you’re witnessing the west awake! Gaillimh Abu!"

Nearly as many people went to Croke Park to witness Gaelic football as the most recent stop on Swift's Eras Tour. Since she was a bit occupied with work, TV viewers didn't have to worry about constant cutaways to her watching in the stadium like NFL fans experienced throughout Kansas City Chiefs games.

Turner was already nailing the call before name-dropping Swift. Perhaps it'll feel forced to American fans who heard some variation of a "Shake It Off" pun hundreds of times last season, but the pop star was performing in Ireland for the first time in six years.
